Background:
For most of my life, I have enjoyed stories of all kinds. Consequently, two of my favorite hobbies include reading books and watching movies – and I am always in search of different books and movies to read or watch. However, I can’t allow myself to read just any book or watch just any movie. I have watched a couple movies and even read a book or two in my life that I regret to ever have seen or read because they were either inappropriate for someone my age at the time or because they were simply garbage. As a result, my family and I like to be very careful of what we watch or read. After all, what goes into a mind cannot be removed easily.
Recently, I was considering purchasing a book by a supposed non-Christian author. I had watched a movie based on this book before, and it was definitely one of my favorites. So, when I heard that the book was even better than the movie, I decided to look into getting the book for myself. However, the movie contained a couple inappropriate things that I knew could be elaborated in the original book, so I knew right then that the safest way to go would be to check a couple reviews on the book before actually purchasing or reading it.
However, I was very surprised when I found that the task of finding a Christian perspective review on this book was not as easy as I had thought it would be. Finally, though, I came across a blog that had a Christian review on this book – and the review mentioned a few things about the book that I was very glad to know. Because of this review, I was able to make the healthy decision to not purchase or read the book. I was disappointed, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
As a result of my search for a book review from a Christian perspective, I discovered that not many Christian websites exist that are dedicated to reviewing specifically books. There are several Christian websites dedicated to movie, video game, and music reviews, but I really have not run across many Christian sites that review books. So, since I already read a lot of books and watch lots of movies, I decided to start this blog as a book and movie review blog, filling it with my own reviews of the books I read and the movies I watch. It is my hope that this blog is an aid to others when they are in the type of situation I was in and I hope it helps them to make wise decisions about what they or their family should read and watch.
So, enough about the background – let’s talk about this blog.
Who is this blog for?
This blog is here as a resource for individuals and families who truly desire to keep their hearts and minds pure and filled with good things. Luke 6:45 says, “The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” It is my hope and prayer that this blog is used to aid such individuals and families in the choices they make regarding their entertainment in the area of books and movies.
How will this blog fulfill the goal stated above?
The book and movie reviews in this blog are written from a Christian worldview perspective. It is my objective to expose the good, the bad, and the ugly of each book or movie I review so that the families and individuals using this blog can become more aware of what kinds of books and movies they are letting shape their worldviews. Using these reviews, I hope my readers are able to filter out books and movies that would become unnecessary garbage in their lives, and I also hope that these reviews will help them to find alternative books and movies that would more positively affect and shape them. As Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”
