Questions:
  1. What was your reaction to Hiccup’s disobedience of his dad? What does the Bible say about how children should treat their parents?
  2. Hiccup’s parents had a big disagreement in the past, and Hiccup’s mom even stayed away from her family for twenty years. How were Stoick and Valka able to repair their relationship in spite of their pasts?
  3. When Hiccup and his parents start working together, they are more effective than when they all work alone. Read Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. What does the Bible have to say about people working in teams?
  4. At the end of the movie, Hiccup becomes Chief of the Vikings—a position that he had hoped to avoid at the beginning of the movie. According to the Bible, What must Hiccup’s attitude be like if he hopes to do his job well? (Read Mark 10:42-45.)

Answers:
  1. Read Exodus 20:12 and Proverbs 28:7. God wants children to obey their parents. According to the Bible, there are bad consequences for disobedience.
  2. Instead of holding grudges and focusing on each other’s mistakes, they chose to forgive each other, forget the past, and start over.
  3. A group of people working together is more effective than one person working by himself because the people in the group can support and encourage each other.
  4. The best leaders are those who sacrifice their own time, interests, and dignity to serve others.
  5. Stoick proves himself to be a true leader by sacrificing his life for Hiccup. Stoick’s sacrifice reminds us of Christ’s atoning sacrifice for us on the cross (Romans 5:8).
