Earth to Echo Discussion Questions

Family Movie Night
This film can help trigger meaningful dialogue on friendship, trust, loyalty, and honesty.

Questions:
  1. Read Luke 16:10. In what ways are the three boys shown to be reliable and trustworthy? In what ways are they shown to be dishonest and untrustworthy?
  2. At the beginning of the movie, Tuck talks about how, even though Much is different from other kids, he’s really great once you get to know him. He hopes that the kids Munch will meet at his new school will give him a chance. Do you know any kids like Munch? What does the Bible say about loving people who are different?
  3. Alex gets upset at Tuck for not coming back for him when he was caught by the police. Read Proverbs 17:17 and 18:24. According to the verses, how was Tuck a bad friend in this situation?
  4. Alex is a foster kid and knows how it feels to be lost and alone. How do his experiences help him be a good friend to Echo? How can you help someone who feels alone?
  5. Tuck, Alex, Munch, Emma, and Echo continue their friendship even though some of them have to go away. Do you have friends who have moved away? How can you still be a good friend to them even though they are far away?
 Answers:
  1. Answers will vary. Tuck, Alex, and Munch are trustworthy in their treatment of Echo. They are gentle with him and do not abandon him even when things get tough. At the same time, they are dishonest to their parents. They lie to their parents and take off on their adventure in the desert without their parents’ permission.
  2. Read 1 Samuel 16:7. God doesn’t care about how nerdy or awkward a person is or how they appear outwardly. He looks at the heart of a person, and we should too. We shouldn’t be afraid to get to know people who look and act “different.”
  3. According to the verses, true friends stick with each other even when things get difficult, but Tuck abandoned his friend when Alex needed his help the most.
  4. Alex knows how scary it is to be alone and how much it helps to have a friend who will look out for you and help you. You can help people who feel alone by simply being there for them, looking out for them, and supporting them in the things they do.
  5. You can pray for them, tell them about your life, and let them know when you are thinking about them.
